Our Story

Our journey began in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns when our joiner, John, started building huts as a personal project and selling them locally on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. As interest grew, more customers began requesting custom builds, and over the years more than 30 huts have been delivered to customers across Scotland. Although these early builds predated the Highland Huts brand, they allowed us to refine our designs and improve each build to create a high-quality, well-designed product.

Today our huts can be found across Scotland. Some are used as holiday accommodation and rented out on platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com, while others are used as garden offices, workshops, guest spaces, or even small business premises.

As demand continued to grow, we established Highland Huts as a dedicated business. Each hut is still built by John in our workshop near Inverness, while the website, design, and customer enquiries are managed in-house by the family, keeping the whole process simple and personal from the first enquiry through to delivery.

Today our huts are used for Airbnb rentals, garden rooms, offices and more. Each one is still built in our workshop near Inverness, with everything managed in-house to keep the process simple and personal from start to finish.

Every hut is built by hand using strong timber framing and carefully selected materials designed to cope with Scotland’s weather. We focus on practical construction, solid workmanship, and simple designs that last. Unlike larger manufacturers producing huts in batches, we build them one at a time, allowing layouts, finishes, and features to be adjusted to suit each customer’s needs.

Our huts have been used for a wide range of purposes including:

Built Around Your Idea

Every customer has a different idea of what their perfect hut should be. Some want a simple garden room, while others need a fully equipped hut suitable for short-term letting. Layouts, finishes, and features can be adapted to suit how you plan to use the space — from simple timber interiors to full bathrooms, kitchens, and electrical installations.

All huts are built using trusted local suppliers and quality materials wherever possible.
